I passed that part also, and that allowed me to enlist as a 1N3. It was an audio-based test where I had to listen to questions on headphones and answer on paper. The DLAB itself was sort of weird: I had to learn a made up language in a set amount of time. When I took my ASVAB, I scored high enough to get offered to take the DLAB to see if I was good enough to learn a language. But as I said, I did attend linguist school. These were quick Chinese, Russian and Arabic (respectively) tests, druing which they'd teach you some of each language and test you. Back when I went in (1986) the AF would give you three tests during basic: The CAT, RAT, and APE. Others in this particular forum definitely will be able to help you. Prior language generally won't matter, unless your prior experience is in Pashto, Kurmanji, ARabic, Persian (Farsi or Dari) or something like that.
